MADE 4 LIVERPOOL PLAYER OF THE MONTH – NOVEMBER

November is a truncated month as a result of the FIFA World Cup. As such, Liverpool faced only four fixtures as compared to nine in October. Napoli, Spurs, Derby and Southampton were all defeated as the Reds ended this period in strong form.
It was a fantastic response to the woeful defeat to Leeds United, as Napoli were handed their first defeat of the season. The victory at Spurs was even more impressive, with a ruthless first half display backed up by a gritty second half show of resilience.
A largely youthful side then took on Derby County in the third round of the League Cup, with Kelleher coming out on top in the shootout, before the Saints were put to the sword by a combination of Darwin Nunez’s thrust and Alisson’s excellence.
Here are the top performing players over the course of the month:
2=. Thiago Alcantara – avg. rating (7.7)
The 31 year old is absolutely crucial to Jürgen Klopp’s outfit. His absence is always keenly felt, which makes the fact that he’s injury prone very frustrating. Thiago helped the Reds win the midfield battle against Lobotka, Anguissa and Zielinski at Anfield .
The Neopolitans’ trio completely dominated the middle of the park in the reverse fixture when they romped to a 4-1 win. Thiago came off the bench that night to good effect and was once again a level above here. He also played a crucial part at Spurs.
He was at it again when Nathan Jones’ Southampton visited Anfield. The trademark drop of the shoulder was put on repeat as he ran rings around Ward-Prowse and co in midfield. The Spaniard is a truly special talent.

He continues to be the side’s best and certainly most consistent midfield performer. His technical ability is unmatched, and at 31, the club needs to start working on a succession plan.
Thiago Alcantara won the most tackles (14) in the group stages of the Champions League. This is despite starting just four matches.
2=. Mohamed Salah – avg. rating (7.7)
Mo was the club’s joint topscorer in November, with three strikes. He opened the scoring late on against Napoli with a poacher’s effort, with that strike seeing him top the Champions League goal charts (alongside Kylian Mbappe – 7 goals).
It was against Spurs that he truly purred though, almost putting them to the sword single handedly. A razor sharp finish on the half volley opened the scoring before he ruthlessly punished Eric Dier’s error by classily lobbing Hugo Lloris after accelerating clear.
It was yet another match winning display for the Egyptian who shows no signs of slowing down. He took his tally to 14 in all competitions, at least 5 clear of any teammate. He’s on course to finish as the club’s topscorer for a sixth consecutive season.

Mohamed Salah has created more chances (41) and scored more goals (14) for Liverpool than any other player this season.
1. Darwin Nunez – avg. rating (7.8)
The Uruguayan international truly felt part of the furniture during the course of this month. No longer was he too eager to impress, no longer was he sheer chaos. He looked settled and assured, which no doubt helped his undeniable class shine through.
He came off the bench against Napoli and was involved in both goals. His late header caused Meret all sorts of problems, allowing Salah poke home to break the deadlock. This was before he himself tapped home from barely a yard out after Van Dijk’s header was weakly parried.
A return to the 4-3-3 formation saw him line up on the left wing against Spurs. He tormented Emerson Royal throughout and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. He did however provide the assist for Salah’s opening goal.
His defensive work in support of Andy Robertson also caught the eye that night. In the League Cup tie against Derby, he came off the bench and tucked home his penalty in the shootout.
His best display of the month was saved for last as an outstanding overall performance against Southampton on Saturday set tongues wagging. Not only did he notch a brace but he connected well with teammates, laid on chances and generally looked at home in Klopp’s side.

• Most shots per 90 (5.79)

Darwin registered the most goal involvements for Liverpool in November (4) and now departs for the World Cup in really good nick. It’ll take a brave man to bet against the 23 year old truly exploding in the second half of the season.
