PLAYER RATINGS: LIVERPOOL 0-4 MANCHESTER UNITED

Liverpool took on Manchester United in Bangkok, Thailand for their first game of pre-season. The Reds were absolutely thumped by a vibrant United side. Jürgen Klopp gave 32 players minutes. Here are player ratings from the match.

Alisson

Could have done better for United’s second goal, but it was a brilliant chip by Fred. Not much he could do about the other goals. Pinged some wonderful passes.

Mabaya

The youngster was fearless at right back. He bombed on at will and almost broke the deadlock when his angled drive was parried by De Gea. He was a constant threat down the right flank. At fault for the opening goal though when his scuffed clearance was slammed home by Sancho.

Phillips

Shown up for pace a number of times as the United attackers broke in behind the highline. All over the place for their second.

Gomez

Fantastic pace, always quick to the ball, made one error when he also underhit a clearance straight to Fred for his goal but played well overall.

Chambers

The youngster played well and looked bright on the left hand of defence but left Sancho too much space on occasion.

Henderson

Never really asserted himself in the game. One sweet turn aside, the game just seemed to pass him by.

Morton

He played well and linked up with Elliott on the right hand side. Dropped into the ‘6’ role a couple times to mop up play and was decent on the day in central midfield.

Carvalho

Showed some spark with his quick thinking on the break and his passing range freed up Diaz and Elliott a couple of times. More to come from him hopefully.

Elliott

Best player in the half hour he played. Shaw couldn’t handle his explosiveness and he showed why he could play a big role in the team this season.

Firmino

He couldn’t link up well with those around him and took a few heavy touches. Misplaced loads of passes. Very rusty showing.

Diaz

He showcased his pace and brilliance down the left channel. He took a couple of shots that forced saves out of De Gea. He breezed past Dalot with constant ease. Should be more clinical.

Subs on 30′

Frauendorf

Came on at right back and was bright. Didn’t really add enough end product or quality with the final ball.

Matip

Passed through the lines a lot more.

R. Williams

Very shaky. Gave away a goal with what must have been his first touch. It didn’t get better from there either. Not a good showing at all.

Tsimikas

Took one truly woeful corner, almost Aspas level. Aside that he provided a bit of energy down that side but again not enough quality going forward.

Bajcetic

The youngster struggled at the base of midfield with United pressing hard and allowing him no time on the ball.

Clarkson

Slugged it out in midfield. Battled in there against the United youngsters.

Milner

Probably the best player on the pitch in that time period. Showed some lovely first touches and tried to get us playing, to no avail.

Oxlade-Chamberlain

Played out wide on the right. Showed signs. Burst past a few on occasion, but it all lacked substance in the end. Put in a lot of effort though. Wasn’t on the same wavelength as Frauendorf.

Clark

Did he get a touch? Thankless job leading the line.

Jones

Decision making. Decision making. Decision making. Wasted a good opportunity by going for goal himself instead of playing his man in down the line. Powder puff attempt.

Subs on 45′

Adrian

His distribution was actually impressive. Bar one short pass that put Konaté under pressure. Again, nothing he could do about the fourth goal.

Subs on 60′

Alexander-Arnold

Announced his introduction with a lovely one touch move with Salah down the right wing. Whipped a few dangerous balls in.

Konaté

Played well. Showed his strength and turn of pace when he recovered to dispossess Amad off the ball when he seemed through on goal. He charged forward late on but his misplaced pass saw Bailly break forward in the lead up to the 4th.

Van Dijk

Too easily beaten for the fourth but he had two or three men breaking free. Conservative with the long diagonals today.

Robertson

Brought bags of energy. Created a good chance for Nunez. Turned inside to advance up the pitch on occasion.

Fabinho

Not involved much.

Keita

Same as Fab.

Thiago

Denied a goal by a Bailly interception just as he looked set to head home from close range.

Salah

Tightly marked by Malacia. Still got free to cause havoc. Tried to find Nunez at every opportunity. Clipped the post with a wonderfully curled effort.

Nunez

Full of running and intensity. Chested Robbo’s pickout down and saw Heaton beat away his fierce strike. Should have opened his account when Salah’s shot rebounded off the post to him. He blazed over after he misjudged the bounce of the ball. Some loose touches.

Hill

Didn’t fare too badly. Got involved. Won the ball off Bailly and almost found Thiago with a clipped cross.
