MADE 4 LIVERPOOL PLAYER OF THE MONTH – MARCH

MADE 4 LIVERPOOL PLAYER OF THE MONTH – MARCH

March saw Liverpool partake in six fixtures before the international break. There were five victories; with Norwich City, West Ham United, Brighton and Hove Albion, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest all beaten.

The Reds suffered defeat to Inter Milan at Anfield in what was just their third loss of the season. That was irrelevant however, as Jürgen Klopp’s men still progressed to the quarter finals of the Champions League on aggregate.

March was a month where the Reds continued their charge in the three remaining competitions after clinching the League Cup trophy in February. Liverpool advanced to the last eight of the UCL, the last four of the FA Cup, and whittled down the gap to the top of the PL to a single point.

We take a look at the best performing players over the course of what was another excellent month for the club.

5. Andy Robertson – avg. rating (6.9)

The Scottish captain was involved in four out of six games this month and enjoyed a strong month. So much so that he’s been nominated for the Premier League Player of the month award. It is just recognition for the left back.

His highlights of the month include an excellent defensive shift against West Ham at Anfield and a fantastic display at the Emirates. He kept the dangerous Saka quiet whilst still being a driving force in attack to set up Firmino for the second goal on the night.

4. Fabinho Tavaresavg. rating (6.9)

The Brazilian continues to be a pillar of consistency for the side. He’s hit a level in his career where he’s a 7/10 most weeks, peaking to a 9 or dipping to a 6 on occasion. That level of consistency makes him a trusted cog in the side.

He offers his defence world class protection, whilst possessing the ability to unpick locks when in possession. He’s quietly one of the most important players at the club and will need to have another solid month in April if the club is to achieve it’s lofty ambitions.

3. Luis Diazavg. rating (7.1)

The January signing from Porto has not slowed down. He was sensational in February as he hit the ground running and immediately offered himself as a serious option for the manager. He’s continued on that trajectory in his second month at the club.

Diaz’s highlight of the month was a Man of the Match performance at the Amex stadium where he put his body on the line to give his side the lead in victory over Brighton. He’s given the whole club a boost since he joined and we could look back at the end of the season and judge his arrival as the turning point of our season.

2. Alisson Beckeravg. rating (7.2)

The Brazilian stopper was at his world class best this past month. He came to the fore for his side with some huge saves. They say world class goalkeepers earn you 10-15 points a season and Alisson has definitely done just that this season.

He kept four clean sheets this month, conceding just twice. His highlight of the month is definitely the incredible save from Odegaard after Thiago’s lax backpass at the Emirates. His late save from Welbeck’s close range shot at Brighton was also eye catching.

1. Van Dijk avg. rating (7.2)

The Dutch skipper is the definition of consistency. He has it down to an art form. He played in all but one game this month, keeping four clean sheets in those five matches. The only goal conceded with Van Dijk on the pitch was Lautaro Martinez’s stunner at Anfield.

It has been some return from the ACL injury he suffered last season. He’s made 38 appearances already this season, with only Jota (39) and Henderson (41) making more in the entire squad. He was named the club’s Player of the month in February and was similarly influential throughout March.

Highest rated individual performance of the month:

° Takumi Minamino vs Norwich – (9/10)

° Trent Alexander-Arnold vs West Ham – (9/10)
