Liverpool came away from Elland Road with all three points after a comfortable 3-0 victory. Goals from Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mané sealed the win, which was marred by a terrible ankle injury for 18 year old Harvey Elliott. Read on for some random thoughts post game.

• Absolutely gutted for Harvey. The youngster had been a breath of fresh air and added a different dimension to our midfield in the embryonic stage of the season so far. He had appeared in all four games and started the last three. He was seriously growing into a first choice pick in midfield and it was exciting to watch.

Now though he has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He’s showing maturity beyond his years with just how he’s taken the injury in his stride. His kind gesture at the hospital and his words after that all show a young man who will show the same determination he showed to break into the team, to recover and return stronger.

• Mohamed Salah’s 100th Premier League goal. Peak Mo, breaking records every week. He was excellent yesterday, his touch, vision, passing and movement are world class. Touch wood he continues in this vein. He’s absolutely crucial to our hopes this season, as he is every season.

• Trent silencing the Leeds crowd. “Just a sh*** Kyle Walker” they chanted, just another devastating show of playmaking he displayed. He’s created 20 chances in just four games this season. That is not normal. It is unbelievable productivity from a lad who’s still only 22 by the way. It seems he’s completely reinventing the role he reinvented in the past few years. He’s unbelievable.

• Joel Matip is hitting Van Dijk levels of consistency and quality again. There was a period in 2019, culminating in our Champions League success where Joel was as good as Virgil for a few months. He’s operating on that level again so far this season. Unflappable at the back, and when given room to roam forward like yesterday, capable of slicing open defences.

• The Fabinho – Thiago axis is so good. Fabinho was MOTM yesterday but Thiago was not too far behind. Those two offer steel and tenacity in midfield, coupled with technical brilliance and years of top level experience. They’ve played 10 PL games together in midfield. It reads W9, D1, GF 24, GA 3, CS 8. This is a duo to rely and build on.

• What to make of Sadio. Mané looked fine first half, he was causing them problems down the left and his combination with Mo and Diogo was intricate. He dovetailed well with Diogo especially, switching positions a couple of times. Second half though he started getting desperate.

He started forcing it and almost got in his own head at times. He was thwarted by good defending as half of the ten shots he took was blocked. It was as if he was going up against a wall everytime and his only solution was to for his way through with brute force. In the end he got his goal though and the hope is he’ll be better for it.
